Who Can Get a Fat Transfer Procedure?

Fat transfer simply involves the movement of fat from one area of the body to another—for example, fat from the inner thighs may be transplanted to fill in creases or hollows in the cheeks.

This procedure can address loss of fat in the face, lips, buttocks, breasts, under-eye area, and other parts of the body, and is a popular alternative to cosmetic fillers like Juvederm, Radiesse, and collagen.

The Fat Transfer Procedure

During an autologous fat transfer, Dr. Sadeghi will remove fat from the "donor" area using a syringe, or cannula. He will then inject the fat cells into the area that needs plumping, where the fat re-vascularizes and becomes part of the body once more.

This procedure may be repeated until the desired effect is achieved, and can be combined with other cosmetic procedures.

Risks of the Fat Transfer Procedure

Fat transfer can be done on an outpatient basis under local anesthetic. Because the fat used comes from the patient's own body, there is no risk of allergic reaction.

In smaller areas with less fat injected, there is a lower risk of complications. Dr. Sadeghi will discuss your personal risks with you during your consultation.

Recovering from Autologous Fat Transfer

You may be stiff or sore after your fat transfer procedure—this is normal. In some patients, reabsorption of the injected fat may result in minimal volume added. Dr. Sadeghi is happy to answer any questions you might have about autologous fat transfer, and will help you determine your candidacy for the procedure.
