Who Can Get a Tummy Tuck?

Also known as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck addresses loose or sagging belly skin. Pregnancy, weight loss, or simply the process of aging can cause this skin to loosen, and even with diet and exercise, it can be difficult to regain a taut tummy!

  • The tummy tuck procedure can correct the following issues:
  • Loose or sagging abdominal skin
  • Separation in abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)
  • Stubborn belly fat
  • Abdominal stretch marks

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, works best for candidates who are nonsmokers within 30 percent of their ideal body weight, and whose weight has been stable for six months. Women who are finished having children may also consider a tummy tuck.

If there is a certain amount of abdominal fat that needs to be removed, Dr. Sadeghi can combine the tummy tuck procedure with liposuction.

Your tummy tuck will be customized to your needs, and can be classified as "mini," "full," or "extended". A mini tummy tuck is the least invasive type of tummy tuck, as it addresses only the lower abdomen. A full tummy tuck reduces excess skin and fat throughout the abdomen, while an extended procedure contours the entire midsection, including the back.

Risks of the Tummy Tuck Procedure

As one of cosmetic surgery's oldest and most popular procedures, the tummy tuck has been performed safely and effectively for decades. Risks include general anesthesia risks, deep vein thrombosis, and seroma, or fluid collection underneath the incision area. Dr. Sadeghi is always happy to answer any questions you may have about the risks of a potential procedure.

Recovering From Your Tummy Tuck

Depending on the depth of your tummy tuck, and whether you undergo a mini, full, or extended tuck, your recovery time will vary. Many patients are able to return to their lives after two weeks. However, take care to avoid strenuous exercise and activity for at least six weeks following your surgery.

Make sure that you're eating nutritious meals high in vitamins and protein after your surgery. This will help prevent complications, and provide your body with the nutrients it needs to heal quickly and completely!
